Welcome Message

We have the pleasure of inviting you to the BSPGHAN Annual Meeting in 2021. This meeting is designed to offer a unique opportunity to get together for shared learning and to celebrate the friendships, talents and achievements of our Society.

This meeting is different, not only as its virtual this year, but the meeting content has been largely built by our members. The BSPGHAN team has built a great programme which  offers a unique showcase for our broad and diverse interests, activities, achievements and future goals of our working groups and speciality areas. We hope that you will be inspired by the research, clinical updates and networking opportunities on offer from members across the UK.

Do review the programme here for Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday April 27th, 28th and 29th 2021 using the link above.

Please note that due to the keen interest in the high quality sessions on Tuesday, all sessions are no longer parallel to give opportunities to see them live.

Also note that the BSPGHAN AGM took place on 27th January 5pm -6pm.

2022

We look forward to a shared face to face experience in January 2022 . Better times are expected in a few months, and we will make plans for our face to face meeting in Birmingham.

It has been such a challenging time for over a year now and the difficulties continue. The heart of BSPGHAN is made up of all our members sharing a common goal and mutually supporting each other. We are stronger and more resilient  together and caring about and supporting each other professionally and as friends. This has always been our philosophy.

It is important to focus on that aim and embrace the lessons of the last year. Cherish those who support you at home and at work.

There are no strangers here; Only friends you haven’t yet met”.     William Butler Yeats

We very much hope that you will enjoy and engage fully with the scientific, educational and networking aspects of the programme.

We  are aiming for an interactive and enjoyable event. All Members, especially Associates, Trainees and PEGHAN members, please be inspired to put yourself forward to join a group to contribute to activities. Vacancies are advertised regularly. You’ll make new acquaintances and keeping some meetings as virtual, will allow members to participate who may have found it difficult to spare the travelling time.

Remember that the BSPGHAN Education series is still running so please check out the website for these opportunities.

We look forward to seeing you soon.

Best wishes

Dr Ronald Bremner and Dr Sue Protheroe.

BSPGHAN Virtual Annual Meeting- Meeting Postponed

Dear Friends,

The BSPGHAN Virtual Annual Meeting had given us a unique opportunity to get together to celebrate the friendships, talents and achievements of our Society. So it is with sadness that we are announcing that it has been necessary for the organising team to postpone the Virtual Annual Meeting that was due to take place 26th-28th January 2021. It will be rescheduled later this year.

It has been such a challenging time for nearly a year now and the difficulties continue. The heart of BSPGHAN is made up of all our members sharing a common goal and mutually supporting each other. We are stronger and more resilient  together and caring about each other has always been strong. It is important now that we focus on that aim.

It has been a difficult decision, but the consensus from the organising and scientific committee and representation from AHP, Trainees and PeGHAN,  is that this is our only option. The significant and worsening impact of COVID-19 on so many hospitals is increasingly impacting on our services, with some areas more affected than others.

We wish there to be equity of access to our meeting for Members and friends, and prefer this to be a shared live experience. Better times are expected in a few months, and we will regroup soon to make plans for rescheduling.

·         We will let you know as soon as we can when the new dates will be.

·         Accepted abstracts will be included in the meeting, and there will be no further call for abstracts.

·         The BSPGHAN Members only AGM is still going ahead for members on 27th January 5pm -6pm via Zoom and we look forward to seeing you then. Please register for the AGM here.

·         The BSPGHAN Education series is still running so please check out the website for these opportunities.

Thank you for your understanding and we are sorry for the disappointment.

Please stay safe.

Yours sincerely,

Dr Ronald Bremner and Dr Sue Protheroe

on behalf of the organising committee

Aims and Objectives

This meeting aims to promote research, share “state of the art” information on a wide range of Gastrointestinal, Liver and Nutrition topics, and to share innovative methods of working. The meeting provides a forum for a range of medical and allied healthcare professionals to share expertise and research findings, including interactive live oral sessions and pre-prepared poster presentations, via an online platform.

We encourage colleagues across the country to join the meeting. WE hope it is an interactive meeting and disseminates knowledge and experience to facilitate more effective outcomes for our patients.
